In our continuing series of examining Google Search Trends to gain insights into the top keywords queried in the USA, we present our findings for June 2024.

Every day, we collect the top three keyword phrases regarding search volume as reported by Google Trends (US Only). Each term has an estimated query volume attached to it, which we also record—the reported totals peak at 10,000,000+ with a lower limit of 100,000+. After the conclusion of the month, we looked at the phrases we collected along with their volumes to understand what drove queries for the month.

Summer Searching – June 2024

Are you ready for another hot batch of the top queried keywords as reported by Google Trends’s Daily Search Trends? We hope so because there is plenty to discuss from June 2024. The top keywords are related to Google Doodles, which adds to query counts with clicks to the search engine’s altered logo. TV Shows were a popular topic, and we will dive into which ones were the most popular with the search audience. We collected several keywords related to World and US politics and four phrases associated with stocks. The NBA and NHL had their championships last month and a couple of soccer tournaments. In addition, the June full moon drove search interest, and Apple’s annual conference made up our list. But first, reporting data is hard. Let’s discuss a few glitches from the Daily Search Trends we saw.

Google Trends Glitches

If you hadn’t checked this tool’s report daily, you wouldn’t have seen these glitches. The team at Amp is a strange yet tenacious group; we see what others don’t. Here’s some of the weirdness we saw last month.

On June 12, no keywords were reported. It’s as if the day didn’t exist. If you weren’t careful, you would leap from the 11th right to the 13th.  We’re not sure what happened, but no data was reported on this day.

On the 4th, only one keyword was shown in the tool.

  • Span – 6/4/2024 – 50,000+ queries

That’s it – just one keyword.  We couldn’t tell you what topic drove the queries, but the tool stated that there were over fifty thousand queries. Again, data reporting is challenging.

Top Queries

Moving on, let’s reveal the days with the top queried phrases of the month.

  • Dragon Boat Festival – 6/9/2024 – 5,000,000+ queries
  • Juneteenth – 6/18/2024 – 5,000,000+ queries

Google changed its logo for both of these days. The Dragon Boat Festival is tied to the Chinese calendar and happens on the fifth lunar month’s fifth day. This year, the date fell on June 10. Juneteenth was honored with a Google Doodle illustrated by LA-based artist Loveis Wise.

Summertime TV Shows

We love looking back and seeing what TV shows are so popular that they make the top three most queried phrases daily. Here’s the list:

  • The Acolyte – 6/5/2024 – 200,000+ queries
  • Wheel of Fortune – 6/7/2024 – 100,000+ queries
  • Bridgerton Season 3 Part 2 – 6/13/2024 – 200,000+ queries
  • House of the Dragon – 6/16/2024 – 500,000+ queries
  • Tony Awards 2024 – 6/16/2024 – 200,000+ queries
  • The Bear – 6/26/2024 – 200,000+ queries

The latest Star Wars series debuted on June 4th. Pat Sajak retired as the host of Wheel of Fortune on the 7th.  The second part of the third season of Bridgerton was released on Netflix on the 13th. House of the Dragon, the Game of Thrones prequel series, premiered the first episode of its second season on the 16th. Also, on the 16th, the Tony Awards were held.  Lastly, Hulu dropped the third season of The Bear on the 26th.

June Holidays

Here are the top queries related to special days that occurred last month.

  • D-Day – 6/5/2024 – 200,000+ queries
  • National Donut Day – 6/7/2024 – 50,000+ queries
  • Father’s Day – 6/15/2024 – 2,000,000+ queries
  • Juneteenth – 6/17/2024 – 2,000,000+ queries
  • Summer Solstice 2024 – 6/19/2024 – 200,000+ queries

The 80th anniversary of the invasion of Normandy was commemorated on June 6th, but a spike in D-Day queries was recorded on the 5th. On a lighter note, National Donut Day occurred on the 7th, and people probably searched for information about it to find a free donut. The week of June 16th had three days for people to search. Father’s Day happened on the 16th, and although Juneteenth is on the 19th, queries started spiking on the 17th (more people queried about the holiday on the 18th, as reported earlier in this post). The week wrapped up with welcoming the summer season.  Happy Solstice!

A World of Politics

This year, the US Presidential election will dominate most of the top queries, but in June 2024, our collection contained keywords related to other countries’ elections. Let’s examine the list.

  • Claudia Sheinbaum – 6/2/2024 – 500,000+ queries
  • Mexico President – 6/2/2024 – 200,000+ queries
  • India election results – 6/3/2024 – 500,000+ queries
  • Hunter Biden – 6/11/2024 – 500,000+ queries
  • Presidential debate – 6/27/2024 – 5,000,000+ queries
  • Gavin Newsom – 6/27/2024 – 200,000+ queries
  • Supreme Court – 6/28/2024 – 200,000+ queries

A new Mexican President, Claudia Sheinbaum, won the election on the 2nd in a landslide and will be taking office on October 1. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has secured a third term in office, although his party won fewer seats than in previous elections.  Back home on the 11th, Hunter Biden was found guilty on federal gun charges. Later that month, his father debated Donald Trump on the 27th. His poor performance drove people to query Gavin Newsom’s name as a potential replacement on the Democrat ticket. Finally, the Supreme Court overturned the Chevron USA v. National Resources Defense Council, which changed the practice of deferring to federal agencies’ reasonable interpretations of ambiguous federal laws.

NBA Finals

The National Basketball Association held its Finals last month. Let’s review the query timeline for its championship series.

  • Celtics – 6/6/2024 – 500,000+ queries
  • NBA – 6/9/2024 – 1,000,000+ queries
  • NBA – 6/13/2024 – 2,000,000+ queries
  • NBA – 6/17/2024 – 2,000,000+ queries

Although they were only the lead keywords once during the NBA Finals, the Boston Celtics won their 18th championship. Most pundits thought the Dallas Mavericks would win the series, somehow forgetting how dominant the Celtics were during the 2023-2024 season. Better luck in your future predictions.

After The Finals

Attention towards the NBA continued to be strong after the Finals.

  • NBA Draft 2024 – 6/25/2024 – 1,000,000+ queries
  • Bronny James NBA Draft – 6/26/2024 – 1,000,000+ queries
  • LeBron James – 6/27/2024 – 200,000+ queries
  • Klay Thompson – 6/29/2024 – 200,000+ queries

The draft was held on the 25th, and Lebron James’ son was picked by the LA Lakers. Bronny will have a chance to play with his dad next year. After the draft, it was reported that Klay Thompson would be leaving the Warriors to join the Dallas Mavericks next year.

Stanley Cup Queries

The NHL’s championship series differed slightly from the NBA’s, where the teams played to a deciding game 7.

  • Florida Panthers – 6/9/2024 – 100,000+ queries
  • NHL – 6/14/2024 – 200,000+ queries
  • Oilers – 6/21/2024 – 200,000+ queries
  • NHL – 6/22/2024 – 200,000+ queries
  • Florida Panthers – 6/24/2024 – 500,000+ queries
  • NHL – 6/24/2024 – 500,000+ queries

Although the Edmonton Oilers were close to coming back from a 3-0 deficit, they ultimately lost to the Florida Panthers.

On the world stage, two separate soccer tournaments started in June 2024.

  • Copa America 2024 – 6/20/2024 – 500,000+ queries
  • USA vs Uruguay – 6/30/2024 – 500,000+ queries

The 2024 UEFA European Football Championship started on June 14th, and closer to us, the CONMEBOL Copa América began on the 20th.  All the matches are being held at US-based stadiums, including the USA vs Uruguay match (USA lost 1-0).

Stocks News

When meme stocks became a thing, we added a new category to our collection sheet. Keywords related to the stock market have continued to make our list since then.

  • GME) stock – 6/2/2024 – 200,000+ queries

  • Nvidia stock – 6/10/2024 – 100,000+ queries
  • Rivian stock – 6/25/2024 – 100,000+ queries

Although it looks like a typo, Google Trends reported the first phrase with the closed parentheses after the GameStop ticker symbol. Berkshire Hathaway stock suffered a glitch, showing a 100% loss.  The firm is considering its options to recover losses due to this issue.  Nvidia stock was queried as the company put a 10-for-one stock split, and Rivian stock price popped with the news of Volkswagen investing in the EV maker.

  • WWDC – 6/10/2024 – 200,000+ queries

  • Full moon June 2024 – 6/19/2024 – 200,000+ queries
  • Strawberry Moon – 6/20/2024 – 200,000+ queries
